Who can participate in MOLearns?
You must be a Missouri resident and at least 17 years old. You must not currently be enrolled in high school. All students must take a series of placement tests before starting. You must score 501 or higher on the reading placement test to qualify for MOLearns. You must have a computer with internet access. Smartphones are not recommended for online studying.
How much computer experience do I need in order to use MOLearns?
Although MOLearns does not require you to be a computer expert, the class is ideally for people who have some computer experience. You should be able to search and browse the internet comfortably. You should also have an email account and be comfortable receiving and sending emails.
What software do I need on my computer to be able to use MOLearns?
You will need to have the most up-to-date Google Chrome browser on your computer. You may be required to download additional updates to your computer for other programs to work properly. You must also have an email account.
Do I need my own email address?
Yes, you will need your own email address. You will need to be sure to check your email daily while in the MOLearns program. Students can create an email address for free at https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/27441?hl=en.
Is there a cost to enroll in the MOLearns program?
Since we are funded completely through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), there is no cost to enroll. However, there will be a cost to take the high school equivalency exam (HiSET or GED).
How will I know when I am ready to take the high school equivalency?
Your online instructor will track your progress through your assessment test scores, assignments, and quizzes. Your online instructor will let you know when they think you are ready for the test.
Once I pass the HiSET or GED, how do I order my High School Equivalency certificate and transcript?
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is now partnering with DiplomaSender (DS) to provide high school equivalency (HSE) data management services. Test takers have access to self-service ordering through https://diplomasender.com/.
How do I get started in the MOLearns program?
In order to begin MOLearns, you must first fill out an online application. Once our office receives your application, a staff member will contact you by email with information on how and where to take your placement tests. Students will be required to score a minimum of 501 on the reading placement test to qualify for the MOLearns program. Classes are ongoing, and new students are added to classes twice a month.
Do I have to go into an in-person classroom to take the assessment tests now?
Each MOLearns student is assigned to a local Adult Education Program based on your zip code. Each program has its own requirements for taking the placement assessment. Some programs require students to go to an in-person testing location, and others will allow virtual testing.
Do my assessment tests need to be completed before I can get my username and password?
All students are required to have current placement tests in reading, math, and language on file prior to beginning classes. The only exception is if a student has passed a subtest of the HiSET or GED test. Once you have all your assessments, complete you will be placed in a class and receive your username and password.
How long will it take me to complete my studies with MOLearns?
The length of time it takes you to prepare to take your HiSET or GED depends on you. It will depend on your starting level and how much time and effort you put into your work and your starting level.
Can I take the high school equivalency test online?
At this time, HiSET and GED testing are both offered online.
Are there in-person options for high school equivalency classes?
